Member Benefits

As a member, you have an opportunity to run for union office, participate in formulating policies at the local, state and national levels, and access a number of personal and professional benefits, including:

  • Attending free and/or discounted networking events, such as professional sporting events, on-campus networking, and year-end and holiday dinners.
  • Eligibility for AFT+, the benefit program available to AFT members and their families. Benefits include insurance, limited medical plan and vision program, dental plan, legal and financial services, travel and entertainment, shopping, scholarships, and loan forgiveness programs. For more details, see http://www.aft.org/benefits/
  • Coverage by the AFT Occupational Liability Policy for claims arising out of professional employment activity.  This insurance provides up to $1,000,000 for each member per occurrence for damages arising out of bodily injury or property damage. The policy also provides up to $1,000,000 protection for each member for damages arising out of personal injury, libel, slander, defamation and violation of the right to privacy. Note for adjuncts teaching at multiple AFT colleges: your Occupational Liability, AD&D Insurances, and other coverages apply only the institution in which you are a dues paying member.
